Tips
Great ideas for purchasing, storing, and consuming lime.
- Look for limes that are firm and have a light green color. Avoid those with soft spots, blemishes, or dark spots.
- You can tell if lime is good by squeezing it—it should feel a little bit squishy, but not too much.
- Store limes in the refrigerator so they stay fresh for longer. Alternatively, you can freeze them for up to 6 months (they’ll last longer than that, but the taste will start to deteriorate). Be sure to peel and slice before freezing!
- Don’t wrap limes in a plastic wrap—the moisture from the wrapping will cause them to rot faster! Just leave them on the counter-top instead.
- If you’re using fresh limes in a recipe, squeeze out every last drop of juice before adding it to your dish (you’ll get more citrus flavor this way). If you’re using dried lime powder, mix it with water first so that all of the powder dissolves before adding it to your dish.
